Since its revival in 2003 and the creation of the Channel Arc Manche Assembly in 2005, the Franco-British cooperation project at the maritime basin's level has carried out its main objectives :
- Show the interest of the Channel Arc as a coherent area for territorial cooperation at EU level
- Strengthen the Franco-British partnership between Channel Arc regions through concrete actions and achievements that may benefit from european programmes.
Regular meetings with European commission representatives, but also written contributions and the release of political positions on various european issues, particularly on territorial cooperation and on the integrated european maritime policy, have allowed the Channel Arc to assert its shared interests towards the EU in a constant way.
All territories bordering the Channel are now eligible for the crossborder cooperation programme. A unifying Channel-wide project , EMDI, has been carried out bewteen 2004 and 2004, and another one, Channel Arc Manche Integrated Strategy, (CAMIS) has been launched in october 2009.
To measure the work accomplished so far is also to face the one ahead of us, for local authorities bordering the Channel to be able to contribute further to the balanced development of our common area.
