The laboratory for halieutic resources in Boulogne-sur-mer was given the task, in 2007, to set up a Channel programme aiming to develop a global approach to the Channel maritime area.
It contributes to widening the vision of the Channel basin thanks to an ecosystemic aopproach, and to coordinate efforts among scientific, institutional and political stakeholders in this realm.
4 objectives prevail in the Programme :
- developping multidisciplinary research capacities
- setting up tools in order to help bringing about sustainable use of the marine environment,
- transfering and putting emphasis on experience and knowledge regarding the basin,
- creating tools which allow to assess the impact of diverse human pressure on ecosystems.
The Channel Programme is actually a structure aiming to link scientific work together and to gather projects dealing with marine resources in the Channel under a commmon label.
